Pillnitz Castle

Sunday we went to Pillnitz Castle and enjoyed another beautiful fall day! It’s nice that we are able to enjoy it this year. We were moving last year at this time and every weekend was busy.

A little history about the Pillnitz Castle.

From the royal palace in Dresden, the Saxon court used to travel by magnificent gondolas up the Elbe to Pillnitz. When you would see the superb open staircase leading up to the waterside palace. It was known as the “summer palace for park and aquatic festivities.”
The extensive park covers an area of 28 hectares.

Here are some photos from yesterday. I couldn’t get a photo of the whole front of the castle, since it faces the Elbe River. We are thinking next year to ride out bikes to it, and then we would be on the other side of the castle and I can get a better photo then.
